Carved Fox Mask (Photo)
This project took 5 days from start to completion during a summer camp at the Spanish village art center in Balboa Park, San Diego.
On the first day we went for a hike in the trails adjacent to the park, where I found a triangular and slightly curved piece of wood. On the way back in my head some ideas were churning. I cut a small triangle using a manual saw at the base of the triangular wood.
Next three days I sanded the entire wooden piece, till it was smooth to touch. I took black charcoal pencil drew eyes, nose and ears. With white charcoal pencil I outlined the ears and used my finger to give a furry appeal.
I was amazed at the results. The fox face mask now peers at me constantly, from the wall opposite to my bed.
